Ahead of the much-anticipated announcement of this year’s Dulux Colour Awards Winners, we’re reflecting on the winner of the 2025 Commercial and Multi Residential Exterior category, the Northern Memorial Park Depot in Glenroy, VIC.

Noted for it’s considered use of colour and materiality in response to civic, industrial, natural and memorial contexts, the Northern Memorial Park Depot sets the standard for functional and empathetic design.

Delivered for the Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust, the two-storey mass timber hub was designed as a sustainable and beautiful workplace amongst a highly sensitive setting.

Designed for context and landscape

A pleated, perforated metal façade gently wraps the building, with soft, muted green tones reflecting the native Australian landscape. Using Duratec Zeus colours developed through our CustomColour™ service, the design responds carefully to its surroundings, curving around existing tree canopies and creating depth through light and shadow.

Colour supporting function and wayfinding

Inside, powder coated elements such as handrails, lockers, planters, skirting and doorways use Duralloy colours to support wayfinding across the building improving navigation, safety and spatial clarity.

A benchmark for sustainable infrastructure

By integrating colour, materiality and Dulux high performance powder coatings, the Northern Memorial Park Depot sets the benchmark for thoughtful infrastructure designed for longevity and sustainability.
